Chickens & Stuff

So we have talked about getting chickens for quite awhile. And since its spring time, we decided to go for it. I have done my research and picked out a breed that works best for our family. They are called Barred Rock Chickens. They do not make a lot of noise (except maybe when laying eggs), they lay brown eggs, they have personalities, they bond well with humans and they are not a lot of work. It took some time but Mike found baby chicks in this breed. We got four, one for each of us. Makenna named her Francis, mine is Lulu. The boys haven't named their chicks yet. Tyler said his is girl Hammer for now (when he was a baby, he was boy Hammer for about 2-3 days until we could agree on a name). The guy we bought them off of said we might want to buy an extra one.........just in case. But thankfully Mike stuck to the number 4. We have to have them inside under the light until they get feathers which will be in about 4-5 weeks. They won't start laying eggs until August. We are pretty excited about our little chicks. Should be fun:)

Makenna took teen apparel this semester and it is not quite what she thought it was. But one of her assignments was to make a dress or shirt. She chose a simple dress, no sleeves, no zippers. Well we I got my sewing machine down from the attic, it was broke. Great! Being in a bind I called Ms.Fredda who I worked with(she also made my curtains in the dining room), she brought over her machine and showed Makenna how to sew (this is where Grandma H could of been helpful, if she lived closer, hint, hint). The dress said "Easy, 1 hour". HA! It took us longer but with Ms.Fredda's help we got it done. Thank goodness.

We recently put ceiling fans in the angels bedrooms & in the bonus room. They were already wired for it but we just never had them installed until now. And just in time because it has already been warm here. Makenna loves hers, it makes such a difference in her room. Also, we got pendant lights in the kitchen over the island, I really like that. Looks so much better.
